Rain of tributes as Adeyemi varsity lecturer buries in Ondo.
The remains of Mr. Adebowale Babajide Odunayo Tugbiyele has been buried in his house in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West local government in Ondo State.
Until his demise, Tugbiyele was a member of the academic staff in the Department of Social Studies and Civic Education, Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo.
Speaking at a commendation service organised in his honour by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) AFUED chapter, which held on Thursday July 2, 2026 in the University, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola while paying tribute, described the late Tugbiyele, as a man who lived a good life and made positive contributions to the growth and development of University during the period of his stewardship in the institution.
The University Administrator, admonished family members and relatives of the deceased not to despair, but to take solace in the fact that the late University teacher left a good legacy behind.
Similarly, several individuals from different sections in the institution also paid glowing tributes to the late University scholar, describing him as a man of humble personality who has good standing in society.They included the Dean Faculty of Education AFUED, Prof. Oyenike Oyinloye; representative of staff and students in the Department of Social Studies and Civic Education; Christ Chapel Interdenominational, Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU); Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU); Non- Academic Staff Union (NASU).
However, at a funeral service organised in honour of the Late Babajide Odunayo Tugbiyele at the Christ Chapel Interdenominational, Adeyemi Federal University of Education Ondo on Friday July 3, 2026, a lecturer in the institution, who delivered the sermon, Dr. Dolapo Zaccheus Olupayimo, stressed the need for people to be of good standing with God.
Speaking on:" The death of the righteous, Olupayimo quoted several passages from the Bible in Numbers 23v10; Psalm 15 v1- end; 2nd Corinthians chapter 1v9 as well as Micah chapter 6 v8 to butress his points.
According to him, "an individual is righteous, when he or she is standing with God". In addition, he also stated that a righteous person is "one who has absolute trust in God and do what is right at all times"
The preacher admonished the congregation to shun evil acts and seek constantly the word of God, stating that the move would help them to overcome sin that may take righteousness away from them.
The AFUED history lecturer, described the late Babajide Odunayo Tugbiyele as a devout Christian who served the Christ Chapel Interdenominational diligently in various positions and left good legacy behind for present and future generations.
Olupayimo also eulogized the deceased, describing him as a man of many parts, who did his best while working in the University. He prayed to God to grant him eternal life and protect the families he left behind.
The funeral service, which held at the Christ Chapel Interdenominational AFUED, featured Scripture reading, choir ministration, sermon and offering of prayers for the families of the late Adebowale Babajide Tugbiyele.
Important personalities present at the occasion included all the principal officers of AFUED: Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere.
Also present was the Senator representing Ondo Central Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Adeniyi Adegbonmire; immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Samuel Akinrinola Akintunde and former Acting Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Olufemi Olajuyigbe.
Others present were Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates, Divisions and Units AFUED as well as eminent personalities from political associations, religious bodies, workers' Unions (ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT) to mention but a few.
