Pension Directorate to AFUED Prospective retirees : Update your records.
The Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Pension, Staff Welfare, and Statistics (DRDPSWS), Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Mrs. Ogungbenle Beatrice Eghosa, has advised members of staff listed among those to retire between years 2026 and 2030, to update their records, so as “not to encounter unnecessary delays during the processing of their pensions and retirement benefits”.
Ogungbenle gave the advice in an interactive session organized by the DPSWS for prospective retirees from the University, which was held on Thursday July 9, 2026 at the New Centre for Educational Technology building in the institution.
Describing retirement as “another joyous milestone”, the DRDPSWS, congratulated the prospective retirees and advised them to pay serious attention to what she observed as common causes of delay in pension processing.
She listed the causes of delay to include untimely update of records, problem relating to next-of-kin, discrepancies between date of birth on University record and the National Identification Number (NIN) as well as issues relating to change of Pension Fund Administrator (PFA).
In addition, Ogungbenle also urged the prospective retirees who would be going between years of 2028 and 2030 to contact their PFAs for data recapturing so as to update their records in order to facilitate the processing of their pension and retirement benefits.
On matter relating to academic staff who have attained the rank of Associate Professor before attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65, the DRDPSWS said such staff having being covered with relevant government policy, would be retained in service until they attain 70 years of age.
She, however, stated that those who do not get promoted as Associate Professor before reaching 65 years of age are not eligible for the extension.
Speaking on two available retirement benefit payment options, which she listed as “Programme withdrawal and Annuity”, Ogungbenle said while programme withdrawal is administered by retirees Pension Fund Administrators, the latter (Annuity) is managed by Licensed Insurance Company.
On issues relating to Federal Government Exit Benefit Scheme (EBS), the DRDPSWS, described it as a special financial support package introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administration to cushion the effects of retirement before commencement of pension payment.
She explained that the scheme provides beneficiaries with an amount equivalent to one year’s annual salary adding that the payment would not be deducted from the retiree’s retirement savings account neither would it also form part of the pension benefits.
According to her, “the Exit Benefit Scheme (EBS) is a special package provided by the Federal Government to ease financial burden of retirees before their pension becomes fully operational. It is not a deduction from retiree’s savings or pension entitlement”, she stated.
The meeting which held at the New Centre for Educational Technology (CET) in the University was attended by Senior Officials from DPSWS among whom was Mr. Akomolafe Kayode. Also present was Mrs. Ogunleye Funmilayo, an Administrative Officer I and other staff from the Directorate.
