Sensitization Programme for AFUED Intending Retirees
The Directorate of Pension and Staff Welfare (DPSW), Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, has organised a one-day sensitization programme for intending retirees in the institution.
The programme which held on Wednesday June 17, 2026, had in attendance participants from various departments in the university.
Addressing the participants, the Director, Directorate of Pensions and Staff Welfare (DPSW), AFUED, Pastor Paul Boluwaji Adebayo, explained that the programme was organised for the purpose of sensitizing intending retirees in the institution on what to do concerning issues relating to retirement planning, pension administration, financial management, healthcare and post-retirement opportunities.
Adebayo stressed importance of regular communication between the DPSW and the retirees while urging them to have functional android phones, operational whatsapp account and valid e-mail address stating that the move would facilitate receipt of information regarding their retirement.
His words: “Everyone must have a functional android phone, email address and whatsapp page, this will help us relate with you and you relating with us without necessarily coming to us and also relate with your PFA’’.
On security of their personal information, the intending retirees were advised against sharing personal identification numbers, passwords, or verification codes with unauthorized individuals.
In addition, the DPSW head, assured the participants that official communication would be conducted only through designated officers and approved channels.
Adebayo also spoke on issues relating to next –of-kin and urged the intending retirees to ensure that information on it are accurate and confidential. He said “We also appeal to you, do not disclose your personal identity number or code to individuals, except if that person is your confidant’’, on documentation, Adebayo advised the intending retires to provide all information and records concerning promotion letters, proof of pension contributions, valid identification documents as well as clearance certificates that confirms that the intending retires have settled all outstanding obligations, including housing or microfinance loans before benefit payments can be finalized.
Similarly, the DPWS head also advised participants from changing their pension fund administers in order to avoid “documentation issues that could cause transfer delays, paper work stress and risk of missing retirement benefits, timing, loss of historical records/ access and investment performance risk’’.
Also in her contribution, The Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Pension and Staff welfare, AFUED, Mrs. Ogungbenle Beatrice Eghosa, outlined key guidelines for accessing retirement benefits under the newly implemented “Exit Benefit Scheme (EBS).
In addition, Ogungbenle also spoke on other issues such as ension administration, benefit payments options, documentation requirements and timeline for processing retirement benefits.
According to her, “The Exit Benefit Scheme (EBS) is designed to complement the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in order to improve welfare of retiring employees stating that under the policy eligible beneficiaries would receive an amount equivalent to one hundred percent of their total annual emoluments at the time of retirement subject to applicable regulations and approvals”.
The interactive session between the DPWS and the intending retirees featured the presentation of information on two approved benefit payment options available to retirees. The two options are programmed withdrawal managed by pension fund administrators and the annuity option administered by licensed insurance companies.
Resource Person at the sensitization exercise, however, advised participants to carefully evaluate and confirmed their preferred options very well ahead of retirement “as changes may be restricted once processing commences”.
The sensitization programme featured interactive sessions, during which participants sought clarification on various retirement related issues which were responded to by the Resource Persons invited for the programme, which the organizers said formed part of the institutions continuous efforts aimed at promoting staff welfare and ensure retiring employees are adequately prepared for a fulfilling and financially secured retirement.
Important personalities who attended the one-day sensitization exercise held at the Omolabake Akindehin New Registry building in the university included the Principal Assistant Registrar, DPSW AFUED, Dr. Emmanuel Taiwo Akinola, Senior Assistant Registrar, DPSW AFUED, Mr. Kayode Joseph Akomolafe as well as members of staff from Directorate of Information and Public Relations AFUED to mention a few.
